The Cleveland Cavaliers 93-89 win over the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 of the Finals ended a storybook season for the Dubs,whose 73-9 regular season record was the best in NBA history.The Cavs had never won a title before.These are my top 5 teams that never won a title.

5.2001 Seattle Mariners 

In 2001,the Oakland A’s won 102 games and lost 60.They did a good job and probably had the best record in the Majors,right?Well,they failed to even win their division.Why?Because the Mariners were 116-46!!! They had to fight for the first round in the playoffs though,edging Cleveland 3-2.Their season came to a halt in the ALCS however,losing 1-4 to the Yankees.

4.1906 Chicago Cubs 

I wrote about this team in my biggest upsets article. They were 116-36,and ,made the World Series.In the Series however,they never led against the White Sox,losing in six.

3.1954 Hungarian national soccer team 

The Hungarian juggernaut had not lost since 1950 prior to the 1954 World Cup Switzerland,and in the final,they were huge favorites over West Germany,having beaten them 8-3 in the group stage.In the final,they took a 2-0 lead by the eighth minute,but Germany scored in the tenth and equalized via Helmut Rahn eight minutes later.In the 84th minute,Rahn scored again to give the Germans a 3-2 lead.Ferenc Puskás seemed to have equalized,but he was ruled offsides.The match is now called “The Miracle of Bern”.

2.2007 New England Patriots 

The Pats were 16-0 going into Super Bowl XLII against the New York Giants,who were 11-5.They were 12-point favorites too.Then came the legendary “Helmet Catch”(look it up) from David Tyree.Then came Plaxico Burress’s game-winning TD.The 17-14 loss derailed the Patriots dynasty for a while too.

1.2016 Golden State Warriors 

Golden State was 73-9 in the regular season,which is the best ever.How good?Consider that the second best was the 72-10 ’95 Bulls,which included Scottie Pippen,Dennis Rodman,and some guy named Michael Jordan.They breezed through the first two rounds,winning 4-1 against the Houston Rockets and the Portland Trail Blazers.They fell behind 1-3 against the Oklahoma City Thunder,but came back to win 4-3.The Cavs were 57-25,swept the Pistons and Hawks,and beat Toronto in six.The 70th NBA Finals saw the first four go down like this:

It was time for Game 7.Unanimous MVP Stephen Curry woke up in Game 7,leading the Warriors to a 49-42 halftime lead and a 76-75 lead after three quarters.Then,with the score at 89-89,nobody could score from 4:39 left till 0:53 left.With 1:50 left, Andre Iguodala came at the basket only to have LeBron James track him down from the other end and slam his layup on the board for one of the greatest blocks ever.The next score came when Kyrie Irving hit a three.LeBron sealed the trophy with 10 seconds left with a free throw,completing a triple-double for a 93-89 win.James was the unanimous MVP.
