Max Verstappen, Fernando Alonso, and Esteban Ocon held grid positions to claim the top three spots in Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix. Verstappen and Alonso held firm in the 1st and 3rd positions in the standings as a result, while Ocon more than tripled his season output and moved up to the top ten on the season.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and George Russell claimed the fourth and fifth positions respectively to bring Mercedes to 119 points on the season, one shy of Aston Martin for second in the Constructors’ race.
Red Bull and Verstappen look again to coast to easy championships among constructors and drivers respectively, with Red Bull holding a 129-point lead on second-place Aston Martin and Verstappen leading teammate Sergio Perez by 39 points in the drivers’ race.
The season continues with the Spanish GP next Sunday, as Verstappen looks to defend his win from last season while Red Bull seek a repeat of their sweep of the top two positions, something they have accomplished four times in six races this season. Aside from Verstappen and Perez, only Hamilton and Alonso have cracked the top two at any race this season.
