Golden Knights Blow it Open in Third Period, Seize 1-0 Series Lead

The Vegas Golden Knights rode a stunning third period in which they scored three and conceded zero to surge to a 5-2 victory over the Florida Panthers in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Vegas’ scoring was paced by two assists from a resurgent Jack Eichel as well as a goal and an assist from defenceman Shea Theodore. Adin Hill continued his sensational postseason run from between the sticks for the Knights, saving 35 of the 33 shots he faced. Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk committed a costly turnover leading fo Vegas’ third goal and was later ejected in a show of frustration.

The Knights began their second Stanley Cup Finals appearance in six years as a franchise exactly how they began their first one: with a Game 1 win at home. However, they will look to avoid a repeat of that series the rest of the way, as they dropped four straight after a Game 1 victory in a series loss to the Washington Capitals.

Florida will look to rebound from a crushing defeat in order to continue their run at becoming the second eight seed to ever win the Stanley Cup, following the 2012 Los Angeles Kings. Florida would also be the first eight seed to ever win the Cup having defeated both No.1 seeds, having defeated President’s Trophy winners Boston in a seven-game first round series.

Game 2 will be Sunday night in Vegas at 8:00 p.m. Eastern and 5:00 p.m. Pacific.
